Getting Started
What is CoinValue?
CoinValue is an online tool that identifies and values coins from a photo. Take a picture of your coin, and our AI analyzes the type, year, mint mark, and condition to give you an estimated market value.
How do I take my first scan?
Tap "Scan" in your dashboard, then either take a photo with your phone's camera or upload an image from your gallery. Place your coin on a plain, well-lit surface for the best results.
Do I need to download an app?
No. CoinValue works right in your phone's browser. Just open the website and start scanning. Nothing to install or update.
How Sign-In Works
How do I sign in?
Enter your email address on the sign-in page. We'll send you a secure link — click it to sign in. No password needed.
I didn't get my sign-in email. What should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder first. The email comes from CoinValue and may take a minute to arrive. If you still don't see it, try again — make sure you typed your email address correctly.
My sign-in link expired. What now?
Sign-in links are valid for 15 minutes. If yours expired, just go back to the sign-in page and request a new one. It's instant.
Do I need a password?
No. CoinValue uses secure email links instead of passwords, so there's nothing to remember or reset.
How Coin Scanning Works
How do I scan a coin?
Open your dashboard and tap "Scan." Use your phone's camera or upload a photo. Our AI will identify the coin and estimate its value in seconds.
What makes a good coin photo?
Place your coin on a plain, light-colored surface. Use natural or bright indoor light — avoid shadows and glare. Hold your camera directly above the coin so it fills most of the frame. A clear, well-lit photo gives the most accurate results.
What counts as a scan?
A scan is counted when you submit a photo and receive a result. If the scan fails (for example, the image wasn't clear enough or wasn't a coin), it does not count toward your limit.
My scan failed. Did I lose a free scan?
No. Failed scans are not deducted from your count. You only use a scan when you get a successful result.
How Valuation Works
How does CoinValue determine my coin's value?
Our AI identifies your coin's type, year, mint mark, and condition, then compares it against recent auction data and dealer pricing. The result is an estimated market range — not a certified appraisal.
What do the condition grades mean?
We use four main grades: Good (heavily worn, major details visible), Fine (moderate wear, all lettering clear), XF/Extremely Fine (light wear, sharp details), and Uncirculated (no wear, original mint luster). Higher grades generally mean higher value.
Why is the value a range instead of an exact number?
Coin values depend on many factors — the buyer, the market, and subtle condition differences that only a hands-on inspection can confirm. A range gives you a realistic picture of what your coin might sell for.
Is this the same as a certified appraisal?
No. CoinValue provides AI-powered estimates based on market data. For insurance, estate, or high-value transactions, we recommend a professional grading service like PCGS or NGC.
Free vs. Paid Plans
How many free scans do I get?
You get 3 free scans. After that, you'll need a subscription to keep scanning.
What's included in a subscription?
Subscribers get unlimited scans, a coin collection tracker, condition-based valuations, error and variety detection, and access to Professional Coin Reports.
How much does it cost?
Plans start at $9.99/month, or save with the annual plan at $79.99/year (that's about $6.67/month). See our pricing page for full details.
Managing Your Subscription
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to Settings in your dashboard, then tap "Manage Billing." This opens your billing portal where you can cancel with one click. No hoops, no hidden steps.
What happens after I cancel?
You keep full access until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the free tier. Your saved coins and scan history are not deleted.
Can I get a refund?
We don't offer partial refunds for unused time, but you keep access through the end of your billing cycle after canceling. If you have a billing issue, contact us through the support form.
How do I update my payment method?
Go to Settings, then tap "Manage Billing." From there you can update your card or payment details.
Your Coin Collection
What is the coin collection?
Every coin you scan is saved to your collection automatically. You can view all your coins, see their estimated values, and track your collection over time.
What happens to my saved coins if I cancel?
Your coins stay in your account. If you resubscribe later, everything will be right where you left it.
Can I delete a coin from my collection?
Yes. Open any coin in your collection and use the delete option to remove it.
Professional Coin Report
What is the Professional Coin Report?
A detailed PDF document with full identification, condition assessment, error and variety analysis, historical context, mintage data, and comparable auction results.
Who is the report for?
It's useful for insurance documentation, sharing with dealers, estate records, or simply having a thorough reference for a coin in your collection.
How do I download a report?
Open any coin from your collection or scan results, then tap "Download Report." The PDF is generated on the spot.
Account & Privacy
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings in your dashboard, scroll to the bottom, and tap "Delete Account." You'll need to type DELETE to confirm. This permanently removes your account and all associated data.
What data does CoinValue store?
We store your email address, coin scan images, scan results, and collection data. Payment information is handled securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card number.
